Day 1: (LD)
Brisbane to Ballina
Mon 10 Oct 22
Welcome to our tour featuring Ballina and Yamba. Be greeted with a smile as we join our friendly crew and travellers for our 4-day tour. Our first stop is at Tropical Fruit World where we are introduced to the home of the largest range of tropical and rare fruit in the world! The plantation is situated on the rim of the largest extinct volcano in the Southern Hemisphere and offers breathtaking views over the Tweed Valley and McPherson Ranges. Travelling by tractor train throughout the orchards, we learn about and taste the exotic, unusual and delicious fruit varieties grown on the family farm. Continuing south, we arrive in Ballina, our home for the night. Our final visit today is at the Ballina Naval and Maritime Museum which houses extensive and interesting displays including the local port history, a tribute to women in the Navy, a working triple expansion steam engine and is home to the Las Balsas Raft. We check into our motel before our in-house welcome dinner.

Ballina to Yamba

This morning we discover the Australian Seabird Rescue. Originally focusing on injured pelicans, the centre is also dedicated to rescuing sick and injured sea turtles. See these incredible animals with a trained volunteer as we are guided through the centre. Saying goodbye to Ballina, we make our way to Myrtle Creek to visit a working American Bison ranch – Aranyani Bison Tourist Park. The park offers a unique experience of being able to get up close and personal with a bison with a feeding demonstration and talk. We also enjoy lunch here. This afternoon we travel to Tullymorgan to visit the Glen Ian Ostrich and Emu Farm. Here we gain a fascinating insight into these giant birds, in addition to the incubation process and chicks. The farm is also home to alpacas and goats, not to mention numerous other bird varieties. We continue to Yamba where we enjoy dinner overlooking the water at the Yamba Shores Tavern.

Local Yamba Touring

This morning we explore Yamba with a local expert before visiting the award-winning Yamba Museum, uncovering the town’s rich and diverse history. Wander through the school room display depicting the historical record of public education and access the ‘Old Kirk’, the adjoining church and view the current exhibition. We enjoy morning tea here before embarking on a luncheon cruise on the scenic Clarence River. We have free time this afternoon to explore the town before our farewell dinner at Yamba Golf Club.

Yamba to Brisbane

This morning we visit New Italy to enjoy our morning tea and wander the unique museum dedicated to the legacy of Italian pioneer families. On our journey home we visit Summerland House Farm for a tour and lunch. The beautiful macadamia and avocado farm set high on the hills of the Alstonville plateau is a House with No Steps business enterprise which provides training and employment opportunities to people with disabilities. This afternoon we arrive home with wonderful memories from our time in Ballina and Yamba.
