We make our way north to our overnight stop of Bundaberg. On arrival we immerse ourselves in the rich history of Bundaberg Rum Distillery on a guided tour. After exploring the museum, we also enjoy samples of the award-winning rum. We check in to our hotel with time to relax before our welcome dinner (lunch at own expense / dinner in hotel).

Day 2

Bundaberg to Yeppoon

Sun 11 Apr 21 (BLD)

Continuing our journey this morning we venture to Rockhampton and enjoy the serene grounds at the Botanic Gardens. After lunch here, wander beneath the towering fig trees or sit by the peaceful ponds dotted with lily pads and swaying reeds. Also located in the gardens is the Rockhampton Zoo where we can discover more than 60 species of native and exotic animals. This afternoon we travel to Yeppoon. Unpack and settle in as this will be our home for the next three nights (breakfast & dinner in hotel / lunch included).

Day 3

Local Touring

Mon 12 Apr 21 (BD)

We head out of town for a geological treat. Feel the excitement of venturing into an ancient coral reef cave as we head into the Capricorn Caves. Be guided through the easily accessible Cathedral Cave, which will leave lasting memories of the ancient geological past, early explorers, the wonders of wildlife and special cave acoustics. We have time at leisure this afternoon. Meander down Yeppoon’s main street, stroll the esplanade or browse the shops. Keep an eye out for one of many new street art murals adorning local walls. We are in for a treat tonight as we arrive at Footlights Theatre Restaurant. We not only enjoy a delicious meal but will also be entertained with their one-hour comedy show, giving us an evening of fun and laughter! (breakfast in hotel / lunch at own expense / dinner at Footlights Theatre Restaurant).

Day 4

Great Keppel Island

Tue 13 Apr 21 (BLD)

Today we board the Freedom Fast Cat for our incredible Coral Lunch Cruise. Our cruise will take us to the spectacular Great Keppel Island, located at the Southern Great Barrier Reef, near the Tropic of Capricorn. Boasting some of the most pristine beaches and unspoilt habitats the reef has to offer, this will be a highlight of our tour. After morning tea upon arrival to the island, we depart on a glass bottom boat for a coral viewing cruise. Be captivated by the sea creatures that pass beneath our feet. The informative crew will provide expert commentary about the history behind Great Keppel Island and the surrounding marine life. We finish the day exploring the island village, browsing for souvenirs or simply relaxing on the pure white sand beach before returning to Yeppoon in the afternoon (breakfast & dinner at hotel / lunch included).

Day 5

Yeppoon to Maryborough

Wed 14 Apr 21 (BD)

Today we leave the tropics and head south. We will pass by fields of grazing beef cattle, citrus orchards and sugar cane as we travel though the small towns of Miriam Vale, Gin Gin and Childers. In the afternoon we arrive in Maryborough where the streets are lined with beautiful Queenslander style homes. We have free time here where you might like to follow the Mural Trail, 37 large murals telling the quirky and serious stories of the city’s colourful past from the time when it was Queensland’s major industrial city building sugar mills, naval ships and railway rolling stock. Or take some time to wander through the beautiful heritage listed Queen’s Park and admire the heritage buildings that line the banks of the Mary River (breakfast & dinner in hotel / lunch at own expense).
